Have you ever seen a million-dollar baseball card? That's not something that happens every day! We are proud to announce that we have tamed up with our sister company, and Robert Edward Auctions to showcase their Spring Catalog right here in our store. You have the chance to see rare and valuable items, and even bid if you'd like. We'll also be on-hand to chat all about the hobby with you!
On Thursday, April 13th and Friday, April 14th between 5:00 PM and 9:00 PM, come witness history as we display the REA Spring Catalog at Vintage Breaks 296 Millburn Ave in Millburn, New Jersey 07041.
Some of the highlights will be:
On April 15th, 1947, Jackie made his Major League debut with the Brooklyn Dodgers at a time when baseball was segregated. Robinson played his career at a time when extreme racism was an issue both on and off the field, and fought his way through adversity that no person should ever have to dream of. This man endured the most unimaginable thigs, but at the end of the his rookie season, Jackie took home Rookie of the Year honors. The following year, Jackie won the MLB MVP award. Between 1947 and 1956, he made six all-star teams and won a World Series ring with his Dodgers in 1955. In 1962, Jackie became a first-ballot Hall of Famer. To have ANY card of Jackie Robinson at Just Collect is a true honor. This 1949 Bowman is simply stunning. The vibrant red background looks like this card came fresh out of a pack. There are zero graded a 10 by PSA, so this PSA 9 is the highest-graded example.
Roberto Clemente was a 15-time All-Star, won two World Series championships, and collected 3,000 hits before tragically passing away in a plane crash as he helped delivery supplies to Nicaragua following an earthquake. His 1955 Topps rookie card is an iconic piece in the hobby history of a man that did as much off the field as he did on. Clemente with a beautiful pose and an in-action shot of as he looks to be knocking one out of the park for his Pirates. Only 11 Clemente rookie cards have been graded PSA 9.
Few, if any, basketball players can hold a candle to the accomplishments that Bill Russell has. The stat standing out is the 11 - ELEVEN championships in the NBA. Mind you, Russell only played 13 seasons. Russell and his team, the Celtics, made the NBA finals in 1958 but lost the series. In 13 years playing, only once did Bill Russell not lead his team to the NBA finals! Add in a pair of NCAA championships, and an Olympic gold medal, you can see that Russell just did not lose. Topps filled a huge void in the basketball world with the 1957 release that didn't see a release since the 1948 Bowman set. Leading the pack is Bill Russell's rookie.
Three MVP awards, a championship, and almost any rushing record you could think of belonged to Jim Brown. Perhaps the greatest running back of all-time, Brown's rookie card came in the 1958 Topps football set and features a design with an oval shape (sort of like a Bob Ross painting; happy little cards) with a nice, colorful boarder. The backs of the cards have fun trivia questions. Back when At the Hop by Danny & The Juniors was all over the radio, a stamp set you back 4 cents, and NASA was created. Yes, this Jim Brown rookie outdates NASA.
The grades on each card are something to behold. Half a Century ago, cards were not placed in protective holders like they are today. Cards were placed in bike spokes, used for a game of flip, or were stacked together with rubber bands holding each. These are just a few of the of the cards that will be here for you to view; so much more will be available.
This event is FREE! Come in and enjoy seeing all that is on display. Feel free to take pictures, and you can even bid on the items, too. We are excited to share this opportunity with you and our friends at REA. Please don't hesitate to say hello, ask questions, or chat about your collection.
