New York Yankees Add Patch to Jersey for Sponsor Starr Insurance

The New York Yankees announced today that for the first time in over 100 years, a patch will be added to both home and away Yankee jerseys to advertise a new corporate sponsor. Could we be seeing Yankees cards pulled with a sponsor logo in the future?

Moments ago, the New York Yankees announced that their signature partner is now Starr Insurance. The press release outlined the usual things you'd notice to promote a sponsor such as signage on the outfield wall and social media posts, as well as a PATCH ON THE JERSEY! Wait - what?

Starting July 21st, the Yankees will sport a patch on their sleeve for Starr Insurance, marking the first time the Bronx Bombers have ever had a such an advertisement. While the Nike logo has been added to all MLB jerseys, the Yankees had yet to promote a company on their uniforms. The Yankees began in 1903 when they were the New York Highlanders, and officially became the Yankees in 1913. The new partnership will run until 2031!

Here is the burning question on our minds, and soon to be yours:

Will these new patches be inserted into Topps cards as relic inserts?

Topps announced that they'll create cards using the MLB Debut patch that rookies wore this season. Do you think Topps will include the sponsor patches in their products? Perhaps Panini even swoops in and uses the Starr Insurance patch as a jumbo patch in National Treasures. Seeing this isn't out of the norm in the hobby, but from the Yankees - that's where it could be interesting. Would you be excited to pull an Aaron Judge 1/1 jumbo patch that doesn't contain the classic Yankees logo, tag, or number, but rather has "Starr Insurance"?
