This may be the greatest 1947-1966 Exhibits pack ever opened and we did it live here for you with Vintage Breaks. FIVE baseball Hall of Fame players were pulled from this pack including the legendary Hank Aaron. We have it all on video for you; watch "The God Pack!"
Gil Hodges was elected to the National Baseball Hall of Fame this past July, voted in by the “Golden Era Committee after 20 years of unsuccessful attempts. Why might this immortal accomplishment be of significance to baseball collecting hobbyists like yourself beyond the HOF designation carrying upward mobility in terms of cardboard valuation and beyond? Well, because our J5 broke a “10 cent”, five-card cello pack of 1947-1966 Exhibits on Friday night that contained FIVE Hall of Fame players including newly-elected Gil Hodges. Hodges was just the icing on the cake, though - wait until you see what else was pulled from the pack.
VIDEO OF THE FIVE HALL OF FAMERS BEING PULLED:
The 1947-1966 Exhibits cards were produced by a company in Chicago, IL. named Exhibit Supply Company. For twenty years, the company distributed baseball cards. The cards are 3-3/8” by 5-3/8” and have a black and white front with a portrait of the player. Overall, about 330 cards were released over those two decades. Back then, you could pick up a pack of 5 cards for just 10 cents. Our Break-A-Maniacs are thankful nobody bought this pack six decades ago; we were able to pull pack-fresh, beautiful cards for you that haven't seen the light of day from back when a gallon of gas set you back about 30 cents!
The first such happening of the “5 for 5 HOF” variety broken here at Vintage Breaks. The pack showed Hodges on the front and blank version of Hank Aaron on the back. In between were Stan “The Man” Musial (three bats, kneeling), Warren Spahn (Boston Braves) and Ed Matthews (SIG). Per the Beckett Vintage Almanac set capsule, the Aaron, Hodges, Musial and Spahn cards were among 10 cards in the 1947-1966 Exhibit issue to be double print plus.
As J5 exclaimed during the live break, this is (was) a “God Pack”.
A huge congratulations to Chef, Dom, and Nick for taking home these incredible cards:
Think how much has changed in the world since these Hall of Famers were sitting in the Exhibits pack - something as simple as the Internet wasn't around. Most homes didn't have a microwave. This will put the timeframe in perspective for you - players weren't wearing batting helmets when this pack was in stores.
