Long before the New York Yankees superstar was a household name, Bowman included a card in their 1951 Bowman Baseball set of a 19-year-old Mickey Mantle. Mantle was called up to the Major League in 1950 but never played a game; he was there to gain experience. Bowman was savvy enough to include the would-be Hall of Famer in their 1951 release. As a rookie in 1951, Mantle hit 6 home runs over the final 27 games of the season and was on the roster when the Yankees won the World Series. Above is the Mantle Bowman rookie card with a Summer sky in the background, and The Mick holding a bat as he perhaps stares down a pitcher. Mantle was a switch hitter, meaning he could bat both left-handed and right-handed. You can see Mantle is batting righty in his rookie card.

Below The Micky is Willie Mays. At just the age of 20, Mays was about to embark on his way to becoming one of, if not THE greatest all-around baseball player. In 1951, Mays won the Rookie of the Year award behind 20 home runs with the New York Giants. When Mays hung his cleats up, he had belted 660 home runs which was third all-time. Mays' rookie card is below Mantle above. The lumber in his hands, NY Giants cap on, perhaps waiting to crush one of those 660 homers.

Here are a few more highlights of the set break. From Roy Campanella on the top left to Monte Irvin on the bottom right, you can see how nice the SGC-graded cards look in the black holders; these '51 Bowman cards really pop.

As there are 324 cards in the break, only 324 spots in the break will be sold - this ensures that you will take home a card from the set. The list of names is always randomized LIVE on the show as the break occurs; you have the same chance as everyone else in the break to land the cards you desire. For example, after the randomization, if your name is in spot 253, card #253 is yours - the Mickey Mantle rookie!

Every spot you purchase will bring a vintage card from the 1951 Bowman set to your personal collection.

Travel back in time when you you heard your parents or your grandparents talked about collecting these cards the day they were released in grocery stores. A year when I Love Lucy debuted  on CBS (October 15th, 1951), a gallon of gas was only 19 cents, and the first baseball game was televised in color (August 11th, 1951 Boston Braves vs. Brooklyn Dodgers).
