A pack-fresh Michael Jordan rookie was hiding in the three hole in a PSA-graded 1986-87 Fleer wax pack we broke for you! Check out the surprised reactions we all had (hint: we were shocked), and see how you can get in on the next pack break - we have another pack available!
^ That - that was S10's reaction when the GOAT popped out of a sealed, PSA-graded 1986-87 Fleer basketball pack. Can't blame him - each and every one of us had the same reaction when card #57, MICHAEL JORDAN ROOKIE, was pulled from the pack live on the show!
1986-87 FLEER BASKETBALL WAX PACK
Fleer filled a big void in the basketball card market in 1986. Topps hadn't released a set after the 1981-82 season. The only retailer licensed to sell NBA cards was a company called STAR. The cards that Star released came in clear team bags, too; no wax packs! This meant there had no been mainstream base rookies of Michael Jordan since he came into the league in 1984.
In stepped Fleer with a release of a 132-card set that came in our familiar wax packs. Each pack came with 12 cards + 1 sticker and retailed for about 40 cents per pack or $10 for a full box. Wish we could hop into Doc Brown's DeLorean and travel back to 1986 were we could scoop up a few cases of Fleer basketball! Back to the Future came out in 1985 so Doc Brown's Time Machine would still have been invented in '86 without us messing up the time-space continuum, right? Still not sure how that whole thing works...
We sold you spots by the card on vintagebreaks.com. Selling by the card means you always get your spot - no skunks! Everyone in the break received a card. When we did the break, THIS HAPPENED:
How many times did S10 say "alright" when MJ popped up? Think we counted five...
With a card like this, we can understand why S10 made that face. If S10 didn't read this post, we'd put the photo reaction here five times; one photo per "alright."
We checked the PSA pop report and there are 319 PSA 10's known. You're never guaranteed a 10 but the best shot is when your card is pack-fresh! Even in a PSA 8, the MJ rookie is hovering around $10,000! Congrats to Brian Glodosky for this MONSTER pull!
Want to try and pull your own MJ rookie? We have a break in a PSA-graded 1986-87 Fleer wax pack HERE!
